January like you mean it

đŸȘœ Rethink how you start 2025

Hey there,

After some much-needed time away, I’m excited to be back. I hope you had a wonderful holiday season.

Now let’s get to work and make 2025 our best year yet. You with me?!

Super, because today I’m focusing on what should be top-of-mind: starting the year strong with a solid January. Something I failed to do while building my first consulting company.

December would go quiet. By January, I’d be scrambling for short-term wins. Outbound prospecting and pitching consumed my days as I hustled to sign the next client, fast.

I’d land a few deals, but by spring, I’d be back to square one—starting the grind all over again.

No systems to scale. If I paused or got pulled into client work, the business came crashing down.

My frantic focus on closing deals cost me the chance to build sustainable growth engines.

All sound too familiar?

Look, it’s hard to think beyond the short term when bills are due.

But January isn’t just for signing clients—it’s the best time to build systems that make the rest of this year, and following years, easier. Imagine coming back from the holidays to a queue of booked clients, ready to work with you.

It’s simpler than you’d think, but it requires balancing action today with strategy for tomorrow.

So, what does this dual approach look like?

1. Prospect & sell aggressively

I know, I know. Not your favorite topic.

But for now, you need to keep your foot on the gas to secure short-term wins. They’ll provide the cash that act as fuel to build your long-term growth engines.

Devote 80% of your marketing & sales effort on:

  • Closing hot leads and past clients (before warm/cold outreach)

  • Leveraging paid channels (sponsor events, ads)

  • Developing business partnerships

  • Attending IRL and virtual events

  • Landing relevant speaking gigs

  • Hosting value-led webinars

Make this January the last one that you’re hustling like crazy to be everywhere, shake lots of hands, and win deals that secure your stability.

And with the remaining 20% of your time

2. Build your automated growth engine

In the background, invest one half-day per week to create gateway offers:

  • Masterminds

  • Workshops

  • Templates

  • Courses

  • Toolkits

Offers that attract ideal clients and build trust at scale.

They’re smaller chunks of your premium work, sold at a fraction of the cost because they require little or no direct/1:1 access to you. This makes them low-risk and easy for prospective clients to buy.

By working on these offers part-time, you’ll use Q1 to create and launch them. By Q2/3, they’ll start marketing and selling for you—on autopilot—while you focus on running the business.

The beauty of scalable offers is how they work even when you’re not, by:

  • Warming up leads

  • Building your authority and trust

  • Creating a steady pipeline of primed prospects

  • Generating semi-passive revenue streams

Putting things in perspective

Think of this approach as selling and planting seeds, simultaneously.

By selling seeds via outbound sales, you’ll win deals that protect cash flow.

Then, the seeds you plant with scalable offers will start to sprout by Q2/3. You’ll have a growing tribe of potential clients leaning in, already primed to work with you—requiring less and less time selling seeds.

Truth is, you don’t have to choose between surviving today and thriving tomorrow. You can do both, for now. Until your growth engine is a flywheel that manages your marketing and sales without you.
