In 2017, I found myself at a breaking point. Seven years into running my digital agency, New Haircut, and despite all of our hard work, we were treading water.
No matter how much I hustled to market and sell, we were never more than 90 days from going under. I started to wonder if I’d chosen the wrong path.
The cycle was endless, too — sell, deliver, repeat. Every ounce of my time and energy was consumed by the business, leaving little room for anything else. Family, fun, even basic self-care? Nonexistent.
I barely recognized the person I’d become, and it felt like I was trapped in a business that was running me, not the other way around. This was NOT the life I had imagined when I dreamed of entrepreneurship.
I remember looking at my peers in corporate roles — earning more, with half the stress — and questioning why I was still putting myself through this struggle. By the end of 2015, the constant work and resulting stress had taken their toll. I was burning out, and my marriage was crumbling.
I wasn’t building the future I had imagined. I was stuck, suffocating under the weight of the business I’d created.
